‘The Arab scene is now a disgrace’

Feb 20,2016 - Last updated at Feb 20,2016

The king of Morocco decided not to host the forthcoming Arab summit that was due to be convened in his country.

His foreign minister explained that the events in the Arab world require a more serious agenda and tangible results to match the seriousness of the current era.

He referred to Syria as one of the issues that should have been the focus of a summit on its own.

The disintegration in the Arab world, the breaking of the bond among the 389 million Arabs, indicates the accumulative impact of a deterioration process at more than one level.

Apathy characterised Arabs faced with the death of 260,000 Syrians over the last five years and with millions of helpless refugees who were denied entry into any of the 22 Arab countries, excluding Jordan and Lebanon.

Nearly 6,000 civilians were killed in Yemen in one year.

Palestinian teenagers are offered daily on the altar of sacrifice just because they dream of a free homeland and a decent life, just like millions of their age living in Africa, Europe and the Americas.

The annals of history, in decades to come, will not forgive Arab heads of states for their neutrality towards the plight of Palestinians, Syrians, Iraqis and Yemenis.

The king of Morocco had a perceptive view of what would happen when he hosts an Arab summit. The only achievements will be more ceremonials and protocol activity, while old communiqués on Islamic solidarity and Arab fraternity will be reprinted but not offer a haven for a distressed Syrian mother or orphaned daughters.

The disintegration of the Arab word is not confined to the political arena, but reached a more dangerous stratum when it corrupted the main faith of Islam by generating new ideologies that justify the murder of opponents, the burning of churches, the enslavement of Yazidi women and the pillage of cities in the name of God.

The accelerating pace of social and ideological deterioration nullified the notion of brotherhood between members of the one family in Damascus, which led to psychopaths who will turn, in due time, into new mass murderers, like Daesh.

The Arab scene is now a disgrace to the whole Islamic world and the Arab nation.

Jordan is the only one to shoulder a big responsibility and to fulfil a noble mission.
