AMMAN — The Kingdom's courts of first instance and appeal have received 47 contestations over the results of the local elections, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced on Tuesday.

The IEC said that the contestation period ended on Tuesday and will not be extended, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Mohammad Qatawneh, a legal adviser at the IEC, said that courts received 12 contestations on decentralisation elections and 35 objections on municipal elections.

He noted that Amman registered the highest number of contestations on municipal elections, with nine objections, while Irbid recorded six objections on decentralisation elections.
