AMMAN — On Tuesday morning, Eastern Military Zone personnel intercepted and shot down a drone that was carrying narcotics within the force’s designated area of responsibility.

The drone crossed the Jordanian border from Syrian territory, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

A reliable military source from the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) affirmed that in coordination with the military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, Border Guard forces successfully detected an unauthorised attempt by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to breach the border.

The UAV was intercepted within Jordanian territory, and was found to be carrying approximately 500 grammes of an unidentified crystal-like narcotic substance. The confiscated narcotics were handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation, the source confirmed.

The source emphasised the unwavering commitment of the JAF to deal firmly with any threats along the border and any endeavours aimed at compromising national security or instilling fear among citizens.
