Jordanian police arrest 14 drug trafficking suspects, over 225,000 pills seized

AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel over the past 48 hours have handled 10 drugs cases, resulting in the arrest of 14 drug trafficking suspects, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) spokesperson said on Saturday.

A joint operation of AND officers and Criminal Investigation Department personnel carried out two raids in Amman and Karak, where they arrested two suspected drug traffickers in possession of various amounts of narcotics, the spokesperson said.

AND officers also dealt with three drugs cases in Amman. The first case resulted in the arrest of three traffickers in possession of 2,300 pills and eight palm-sized sheets of hashish.

In the second case, officers raided a drug trafficking safehouse, arresting three suspects in possession of 10 palm-sized sheets of hashish and various amounts of narcotic pills.

In the third case, security agents arrested a suspected drug trafficker in southern Amman, who was found in possession of seven palm-sized sheets of hashish and 2,000 narcotic pills.

In Zarqa, AND agents apprehended a drug trafficker in his vehicle while transporting narcotics, and seized 21 palm-sized sheets of hashish. 

Two other suspects were arrested in Karak, both in possession of various amounts of narcotics. Another suspect was arrested in Maan for possessing an unspecified quantity of crystal methamphetamine.

In eastern Balqa, AND officers identified a criminal wanted on charges of cannabis cultivation. Officers raided the individual’s operations facility and arrested him after discovering large quantities of marijuana.

Meanwhile, border officers seized 225,000 narcotic pills that a suspect hid inside a fruit truck in an attempt to smuggle the drugs into the Kingdom from a neighbouring country.
