AMMAN — The Public Security Department (PSD) on Wednesday warned citizens and residents of a fraud method followed by con artists who phone their victims from different international numbers and try to sell them valuable materials.
The PSD said these fraudsters trick their victims into going to a neighbouring country to buy gold and antiques for low prices, which they can sell at higher rates to make good profits.
The PSD also urged people report such incidents and the phone numbers used.
Also on Wednesday, the PSD urged the public to follow proper and legal procedures in their transactions, citing a recent case where five people paid between JD8,000 and JD25,000 as down payments to buy apartments from a company but received nothing in return, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The PSD media centre said the company manager was arrested along with two accomplices.
The centre added that anyone wanting to buy apartments or vehicles should check with the Department of Land and Survey.
