AMMAN — The Jordanian Zakat Fund on Wednesday launched a smartphone application for giving zakat donations.
Users of the service will benefit from all the activities and programmes of the fund, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Director General of the Zakat Fund Abed Smeirat said that the application allows citizens to notify the fund about those who are in need of support, and also allows direct requests for assistance from the fund.
He said that the application is currently available on the application store Souqplay and that it will be available in the App Store in the next few days.
According to Islamic law, or Sharia, zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, a tax that requires paying 2.5 per cent of what a Muslim owns in cash money, gold, silver, cattle, farms and rentable assets, in alms.
