AMMAN — Amid the intensifying Israeli-Gaza conflict, where conflicting narratives are emerging, Al Mithaq Al Watani Party, (the National Charter Party), has initiated the “Do Not Stop Sharing” campaign to counter the spread of misleading news and misinformation designed to exacerbate tensions.

Mohammad Al Momani, Secretary-General of Al Mithaq Al Watani and former Minister of State for Media Affairs, told The Jordan Times, that the campaign’s goal is to raise public awareness and spread the truth, calling on people not to be swayed by media polarisation amid the ongoing Israeli-Gaza conflict.

“We all contribute to raising the level of awareness about facts… we all benefit from knowing the truth objectively.” Al Momani said.

In light of the current misdirection, disinformation and propaganda, Al Momani indicated that current platforms have indeed given a powerful impetus to spread facts.
Nevertheless, it is important to remain vigilant of “politically charged publications” and misinformation, as well as determining what is actually happening, he pointed out. He noted that the primary objective is to search for facts amid the deluge of misinformation about the ongoing conflict.

“The campaign’s video serves as a rallying cry urging the people to realise that there is an information manipulation going on... and that applies to all sides of the spectrum.” Al Momani said.

There is a general impression of media bias that it can be rectified through independent objective reporting and that is the job of professional media, he added.
He further noted the importance of relying on fact-checking organisations before consuming news and forming judgments.

Information must be thorough, verified and objective, in addition to providing beneficial information to society, according to Al Momani who noted that “There is a high degree of polarisation, however you can still find objectivity”.
