1st Mashreq conference of Endocrinology, Diabetes kicks off

AMMAN — Deputising for HRH Princess Muna, Secretary General of Health Ministry for Administrative and Technical Affairs Ilham Khreisat on Wednesday inaugurated the 9th conference of Jordanian Society of Endocrinologists, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases and the 1st Mashreq Conference of Endocrinology and Diabetes.
Khreisat, during the inauguration ceremony, said that the number of diabetes patients is increasing in the region and the world, which requires resorting to preventive tools to limit further increases in the future, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
She highlighted the importance of resorting to healthy practices, such as a proper diet, abstaining from smoking and exercising to control weight and maintain it within normal ranges.
Head of the Society Abdulkarim Khawaldeh said that the society, since its establishment, has been keen on keeping pace with the latest developments and research concerned with endocrinology and diabetes, and the treatment of the diseases by participating in several local and international events.
Head of the scientific committee of the conference Munther Momani said that diabetes is spreading fast in Jordan and the region, where its rate among adults ranges between 15 and 20 per cent.
