24 COVID deaths, 4,977 virus cases recorded Tuesday

AMMAN — Twenty-four COVID-19 deaths and 4,977 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Tuesday, increasing the caseload to 953,943, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 11,608, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 9.44 per cent.

The statement added that there are currently 55,261 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 52,745 virus tests were also conducted on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 12,169,073, according to the statement.

The statement added that 3,317 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Tuesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 887,074.

A total of 195 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 1,064, the statement said, adding that 150 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 28 per cent, ICU beds reached 40 per cent, while the occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 31 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 24 per cent, 36 per cent for ICUs and 16 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 10 per cent, 13 per cent for ICUs and 10 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 1,924 infections in Amman, 1,058 in Irbid, 525 in Zarqa, 394 in Balqa, 231 in Karak, 216 in Mafraq, 181 in Jerash, 132 in Ajloun, 112 in Madaba, 61 in Aqaba, 50 in Tafileh, 49 in Ramtha District, 41 in Maan, and three cases in Petra District.

The statement added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 4,137,286 while 3,747,435 have received their second shot.

The number of people who have registered on the vaccination platform has reached 4,489,515.
