JERASH — A total of 193 fires erupted in Jerash forests in 2014, destroying 5,116 trees and 828 fruit trees, according to a report by the Jerash Civil Defence Department (CDD).
The department also dealt with 5,402 accidents that resulted in 126 deaths and 4,682 injuries last year, said the report.
Jerash CDD Director Lt. Col. Mohammad Momani noted that the vast majority of accidents took place during winter and were caused by negligence, such as sleeping while heaters were on and leaving gas cylinder hoses without maintenance.
