91 COVID deaths, 4,042 virus cases recorded Saturday

AMMAN — Ninety-one COVID-19 deaths and 4,042 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Saturday, increasing the caseload to 626,875, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 7,130 according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 14.02 per cent, compared with 13.63 per cent reported on Friday.

A total of 28,827 virus tests were also conducted on Saturday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 6,030,272, according to the statement.

The statement added that 8,789 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Saturday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 534,492.

The statement added that there are currently 85,253 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 321 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Saturday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 3,339, the statement said, adding that 179 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 50 per cent, ICU beds reached 74 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 51 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 69 per cent, 77 per cent for ICUs and 43 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 35 per cent, 45 per cent for ICUs and 31 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 1,757 infections in Amman, 929 in Irbid, including 63 in Ramtha District, 222 in Zarqa, 207 in Madaba, 181 in Mafraq, 158 in Jerash, 144 in Tafileh, 133 in Balqa, 94 in Aqaba, 94 in Ajloun, 82 in Karak, and 41 in Maan, including one cases in Petra District.
