ADSL network available in all areas — TRC report

AMMAN — ADSL network availability in Jordan covers all areas, according to a recent report by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), which indicated that complaints about the service vary depending on the provider.

The report, which examines the quality of ADSL service at the end of 2013, showed that Zain Jordan ranked first in terms of the least complaints about services, followed by Orange Jordan and Umniah.

In terms of connection disruptions, Umniah had the least disruptions, while Zain Jordan came second and Orange Jordan came third, according to the report posted on the TRC’s website.

The report showed that 85 per cent of complaints about services are resolved within 10 days at each of the three companies.

ADSL network availability for Zain Jordan and Umniah reaches 100 per cent, while that of Orange Jordan stands at 99.95 per cent, according to the TRC.

Regarding complaints about ADSL bills, Umniah recorded no complaints at all, while Orange Jordan received the largest number of complaints, followed by Zain Jordan.

Internet penetration in the Kingdom reached 73 per cent by the end of the first quarter of this year, with some 5.3 million users of the service in the country.

The majority, or about 1.127 million Internet subscriptions, is mobile broadband-based, followed by ADSL with 205,102 subscriptions and Wi-Max with 122,774 subscriptions, in addition to 5,700 TV cable, 1,614 leased line and 384 dial-up subscriptions, according to the TRC.

Complaints lodged by citizens on telecom services provided by the country’s three operators rose by 36 per cent in 2013 compared to 2012, according to official figures.

The TRC received 2,155 complaints on mobile, fixed line and Internet services in 2013, compared with 1,580 complaints in 2012.

Of the total complaints in 2013, some 1,060 were related to mobile services, 122 to fixed line services and 966 to Internet services, including ADSL and other types of connections.
