AMMAN — The Head of the Lower House’s Agriculture Committee MP Khalid Hiyari on Monday called for supporting the agricultural sector and cancelling the 10 per cent tax on the agricultural production inputs, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During a meeting with the Poultry Breeders Union President Fares Hammoudeh and the union’s members, Hiyari said that poultry is among the sectors strongly affected by the tax, stressing the committee’s support to the agricultural sector, particularly poultry, which constitutes a major part of the citizens’ diet. He called on the government to find alternative solutions to increase its revenues, in a way that does not harm the agricultural sector.
Hiyari noted that the sector has been witnessing a drop in production due to high costs borne by farmers in the currently difficult economic situation. Hammoudeh highlighted that poultry farmers are already “burdened with several challenges” compounded by the new tax.
