Agriculture Ministry supplies Dana Biosphere Reserve with 3,000 cocoons, seedlings

AMMAN — The Ministry of Agriculture has supplied the Dana Biosphere Reserve with 3,000 cocoons and specially selected seedlings and provided training for staff on proper planting techniques, Minister of Agriculture Khaled Huneifat said on Thursday. 

During his visit to the Dana Biosphere Reserve in Tafileh, located 180km southwest of Amman, Huneifat checked on forest rehabilitation project to enhance the environmental landscape and safeguard ecosystem and biodiversity preservation.

Huneifat also inspected a dairy products factory, participated in an Arbor Day Tree celebration at Tafileh Technical University, and assessed a 100 dunum fodder cultivation project at the Tafileh Purification Station, which involved the establishment of a forest nursery and greenhouses for olive cultivation, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The minister also visited a dairy production project supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation, aiming to breed, fatten, and market livestock in the southern region. 

Huneifat also visited a reforestation project focusing on perennial oak trees, utilising modern cocoon technology in collaboration with the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, Petra reported.
