AMMAN — The Amman Chamber of Commerce on Saturday called for accountability as it held the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) fully responsible for the flashfloods that damaged the commercial sector in the end of February.
In a report carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, a report by a chamber-ordained investigative committee determined that the rainfall witnessed on February 28 was not exceptional, contradicting the GAM claims.
Amman Chamber of Commerce Chairman Khalil Haj Tawfiq said that GAM personnel were missing in action during the rainfall, except for traffic police and a few employees.
He added that 279 businessmen, both members and non-members of the chamber of commerce, incurred losses due to the floods. Tawfiq added that the chamber would attempt to contain the losses, valued at JD6 million, with transparency.
