AMMAN — Next month brings with it further enhancements and new routes for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), such as the introduction of a mobile application and the expansion of its work to Istiqlal Street.

The announcements were made by Executive Chairman Hamzeh Haj Hasan, who spoke on behalf of Amman Vision Investment and Development Company in a statement made available to The Jordan Times.

The company, owned by the Greater Amman Municipality, also announced that 135 new buses will be released next month and linked to the app.

Haj Hasan said that the app will allow BRT users to track the bus’ routes, check bus timetables and book tickets.

“Last month we added a free Wi-Fi service to the buses we previously launched as an entertainment addition, which has proved very successful. The app, which can now be accessed through the free Wi-Fi, is more of a practical addition to enhance the users' experience,” said municipality spokesperson, Mazen Farrajeen.

The new app will be launched simultaneously as the BRT expands its work to Istiqlal Street, one of the busiest areas in Amman.

Farrajeen added: “We realise that this comes as an annoying inconvenience to many, especially since the Istiqlal area is one that is already heavily congested, but our estimate is that the work will be done in 70 to 80 days, and the end result will hopefully solve Istiqlal’s problem forever.”

According to earlier statements by Amman Mayor Yousef Shawarbeh, there will be an additional 286 buses launched by the end of the year to coincide with the completion of road work.
