AMMAN — The Ministry of Higher Education will continue to accept applications for the 4th edition of the Hungarian government’s Stipendium Hungaricum scholarships programme through February 15, Higher Education Minister Adel Tweisi told The Jordan Times on Sunday.

With 400 scholarships annually available for Jordanian students, the Kingdom continues to be the largest beneficiary of the Hungarian government’s student mobility programme, which involves a total of 50 partner countries.

All scholarships will include free tuition fees and medical insurances, in addition to monthly allowances for lodging and living expenses, according to the minister.

“Over 2,000 applications have been submitted to the ministry up to this point,” Tweisi said, noting the “huge” increase in the number of requests compared to previous editions, which he attributed to “the great reputation of the programme and the good experiences that former students share with their peers and families”.

Asked about the date of the release of the final list of beneficiaries, Tweisi said that the names will be published in May, pointing out that all students benefiting from the scholarship must show proficiency in English through an exam to be held during the same month at the University of Jordan.

“It is a long selection process,” the minister added, explaining that pre-selected applicants will also have to be interviewed by Hungarian universities’ delegations visiting Jordan and accomplish their specific requirements.

“We have been sustaining a great relationship with the Hungarian embassy over the past years and the ministry is glad that the programme is still active,” the minister continued, noting that “the great number of students applying reflects their satisfaction with the experience”.

All students accepted in the programme are set to start their journey in Hungary on September 2018, he said, noting that the scholarships are available for bachelor’s degree, master’s and PhD students.
