AMMAN — Students in Jordan will be able to apply online to nine of the Kingdom’s public universities starting Wednesday.

Mahmoud Khalaileh, the Ministry of Higher Education’s spokesperson, said students who passed the General Secondary Certificate Examination (Tawjihi) can apply to universities using the unified admission website www.admhec.gov.jo.

The minimum score for applying to the Kingdom’s public universities is 65 per cent.

All universities will be applied for online, except the German-Jordanian University to which students can directly apply, according to the ministry.

More than 28,000 seats will be available for competition this year, and approximately 19,000 for the parallel programme.

In order to submit their applications, students should purchase a JD15 prepaid card from any of the post offices across Jordan.

All students must possess a national identification card issued by the Civil Status and Passports Department before applying to university as they are required to provide personal information from their IDs, including their national numbers.

The ministry also said that holders of non-Jordanian high school certificates can apply to universities online and send copies of their certificates as indicated in the directions posted on the website.

Students who have Tawjihi grades that do not qualify them to study specific subjects at public universities have the choice to apply through the parallel programme.

Tuition fees for this programme are higher than regular programmes, and vary from one university to another.

In addition, students have to directly apply to the university at which they want to study and have the option of applying to more than one.
