Area of licensed buildings up by 3.9% in first 9 months of 2022 — DoS

AMMAN — The total area of licensed buildings in the first nine months of 2022 increased by 3.9 per cent, going from 6.292 million square metres during the same period in 2021 to 6.538 million square metres in 2022, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Monday.

The department added that the total number of building licences issued in the Kingdom decreased by 4.1 per cent to 18,938 licences during the January-September period of 2022 from the 19,742 licences issued during the same period in 2021, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The area of housing buildings totalled 5.435 million square metres in the first three quarters of 2022, registering a drop of 1.5 per cent, compared with 5.435 million square metres in the same period last year, the DoS said.

The DoS stated in its report that the total area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes increased by 42.5 per cent from around 774,000 square metres in the same period last year to 1.103 million square metres in the first nine months of 2022.

Licensed buildings for housing comprised 83.1 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, according to the department.

The central region of the Kingdom accounted for 65.5 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, while the north recorded 25.1 per cent and the south witnessed 9.4 per cent, according to the DoS.

At a monthly level, data showed that the number of building permits in September reached 2,582, while the area of licensed buildings reached 911,000 square metres, compared with 836,000 square metres during the same month of 2021, registering an increase of 9 per cent.
