Army kills two infiltrators on Syria border

AMMAN — Two men were killed on Sunday night in an attempt to illegally cross into the Kingdom from Syria, a Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) source said Monday.

Border Guards responded to the situation in line with the rules of engagement by issuing warnings to the men, the source said in a statement, adding army personnel opened fire on the infiltrators and shot them dead. 

The army official said JAF will not tolerate any attempt to jeopardise the security of the country and the people, and will not hesitate to use force in dealing with any border infiltration attempts.

Also in a statement issued Monday, the armed forces said that Border Guards received 167 Syrian refugees over the past 48 hours. Royal Medical Services personnel offered humanitarian assistance to the refugees and treated the injured.

The refugees were transferred to sheltering centres and camps prepared for them, the statement said.
