AMMAN — The British Council has launched its Global Study UK Alumni Awards in Jordan this year to celebrate the achievements of Jordanians who studied at UK universities.

The winners and finalists of the awards are considered leaders within their respective fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make positive contributions to their communities, industries and country, read a statement from the British Council.

This year’s award categories include Science and Sustainability, Business and Innovation, Creativity and Culture and Social Action.

The call for applications opened officially in Jordan on October 5 and will close on October 29. The national Alumni Awards will be hosted in Jordan and all eligible applicants will be put forward for the global Alumni Awards.

Finalists of the national awards in Jordan will be announced between December 2021 and March 2022 during a ceremony hosted jointly by the British Council and the British embassy in Amman.

Each category winner will be granted a prize of professional development worth 3,000 British pounds and their success stories will be shared worldwide.

The finalists and winners of the global Alumni Awards will be announced in 2022 and celebrated in a digital campaign that will raise the profile of their stories and successes.

Award winners will be presented with the opportunity to raise their international profiles, expand their professional networks and enhance their careers through a professional networking visit to the UK (subject to COVID-19 restrictions at the time).

Speaking about the awards, British Council ’s Country Director, Summer Xia, said: “I’ve only been in Jordan for four weeks and I’ve already met a number of Jordanians who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to create a positive impact. This is why we are launching our Alumni Awards; so we can inspire more young people to follow in their footsteps.”
