CBJ waives penalties on bounced cheques, offers 3-month grace period

AMMAN — The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) on Thursday decided not to place clients whose cheques were not honoured for financial reasons on its list for bounced cheques, and that such clients will not incur any fees on bounced cheques.
The CBJ said that the decision is in light of the current conditions in the Kingdom and the fact that some clients might not be able to deposit to their bank accounts as normal, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The CBJ also said that the decision applies on bounced cheques between March 18 and March 31, giving clients in this case a grace period of three months to settle any bounced cheques registered during that time.
