AMMAN — The Royal Society for the Protection of the Marine Environment (SEPA) on Thursday launched the “Clean up the World” 2017 campaign in Aqaba, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The Commissioner of Environment and Regional Affairs in Aqaba Sulaiman Al Najadat said: “This campaign aims primarily to create a culture of community to preserve the cleanliness of the environment and the marine environment.” Launching the campaign with a few people, it now engages with thousands of participants, he noted.

The head of the diving association, Abdullah Al Momani, said that the Aqaba coast, which included some 24 diving sites, now counts only seven sites due to pollution. He stressed the importance of preserving the remaining sites, urging visitors not to litter the beach and the sea as it causes loss of rare coral reef.
