AMMAN — A slight increase in temperatures is expected for today with cold weather in most parts of the Kingdom and fair conditions in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Monday.

Light showers are expected through the night in the Kingdom’s northern region, with moderate to brisk north-westerly, winds which may raise dust in the southern and eastern parts of the country, according to a JMD statement.

On Wednesday, relatively cold weather will prevail in most areas of the Kingdom, while the Jordan Valley and Aqaba are expected to witness fair conditions.

The department forecast showers for the northern region of the Kingdom and parts of the central region, with moderate to brisk north-westerly winds which may raise dust in the southern and eastern areas of the country.

Temperatures in Amman today will range between a high of 13°C and low of 5°C.

Mountainous areas in Tafileh Governorate, some 180km southwest of Amman, witnessed light snow and hail on Monday which led to a partial closure of the main roads at the Rashadiyeh, Tasdeir, Qadisiyeh intersections, and several streets in the Bseira District.

Tafileh Governor Hussam Tarawneh said that road conditions in the governorate were difficult due to the formation of fog and light snowfall, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Emergency teams from the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Civil Defence Department and municipalities removed accumulated snow which reached around 7cm in some areas of the governorate, Petra added.
