AMMAN — Minister of Justice Bassem Talhouni on Sunday said that the control measures carried out by the Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD), “must be fair and transparent”. Talhouni added, during a press conference at the Prime Ministry, that if any breach of responsibility takes place, “everyone can turn to the law”.
The minister stressed that the procedures for controlling tax evaders are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the law, adding that ISTD officials carry out tasks as judicial police officers, which enables them to control, investigate and enter the taxpayers’ establishments, given that the ISTD director provides a search warrant. He highlighted that ISTD officers “fully record” the process and interaction for future legal reference.
