AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Rajai Muasher on Thursday said that the results of a detailed study on the “actual tax burden” will be released within two weeks at the latest, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
His remarks came during a meeting held on Thursday in the presence of Minister of Finance Ezzeddine Kanakrieh, with a number of officials and members of research centres.
Muasher noted that the study will be a “comprehensive and realistic” assessment of the tax burden on citizens and various sectors of the economy, noting that most of the studies provided in this regard so far estimated the burden ratio between 15 and 38 per cent.
Kanakrieh stated that it is not possible to continue increasing government expenditures in a large and unjustified manner, underscoring the need to look for other sources to finance this increase, whether through borrowing or increasing taxes.
