AMMAN — The ambassadors of several donor countries on Saturday reaffirmed their commitment to providing JD66 million in support for Jordan’s education sector.
During a meeting with Education Minister Mohammad Thneibat, the ambassadors of the US, the UK, Germany, Norway, Switzerland and the EU stressed their commitment to providing the assistance this year, as the first tranche of $1 billion pledged at the London donor conference in February to support the education sector over the next three years, with JD260 million paid annually.
The Dutch ambassador, a representative of the Canadian embassy and UNICEF’s director in Jordan also attended the meeting. The Education Ministry plans to ensure all children in Jordan are enrolled in school by the academic year 2016-2017, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
