Duchess of Cornwall visits Manara Arts and Culture

AMMAN — Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, head of Women of the World, on Wednesday visited Manara Arts and Culture in Jabal Luweibdeh, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.  

The Duchess of Cornwall praised the achievements of Jordanian women, stressing the importance of empowering women at various levels.

British activist Judd Kelly, founder the Women of the World organisation, discussed issues related to women, their rights and aspirations, in addition to the importance of the role of women in climate change issues during a discussion attended by Deputy British Ambassador to Jordan Richard Moon and UK Embassy’s Head of Development Angela Spilsbury,

A number of women attendees, who represented several sectors, addressed many issues related to women’s empowerment and support at various levels.

The Director of Military Women’s Affairs, Col. Maha Nasser, focused on the presence of women in the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF).

Nasser pointed out that the Jordanian Constitution gave Jordanian women the right to work in the JAF because “it is a national duty”.

Founder of the Mental Health Initiative Abeer Bashiti spoke about her experience in women’s issues and the role of her initiative and its goals, while director Sawsan Darwazeh spoke about the role of theatre in shedding light on women’s issues.

Women of the World is a British organisation that works to empower and support women around the world.

The duchess also visited Princess Taghreed Secondary School for Girls in Qweismeh, east of Amman, Petra reported.

She toured the school’s facilities and was briefed on its activities and programmes, accompanied by Minister of Education Wajih Owais.
