AMMAN — Payments made through e-FAWATEERcom in the first three months of 2017 rose to JD449 million, increasing 15 times compared to the same period last year when payments reached JD27 million, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Monday.

Monthly data from the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) showed 861,000 payment transactions in 2017’s first quarter, compared to 301,500 transactions in the same period of 2016.

e-FAWATEERcom, run by the CBJ, is a central system which allows the reviewing and paying of bills, as well as other electronic services through linking public and private institutions of various sectors on one side, and banks and payment service providers on the other.

The system provides access to all electronic payment methods related to banks such as branches, ATMs, telephone and Internet banking, and payment through mobile and kiosk devices.

Since its launch in 2015, e-FAWATEERcom witnessed payments worth more than JD1.052 billion, through 3.193 million transactions, according to CBJ data reported by Petra.

Government institutions accounted for most of the payments with JD402 million, followed by educational institutions with JD19 million, and basic services with JD17 million.

The value of bills paid through e-FAWATEERcom amounted to JD580.8 million in 2016, compared to JD41.6 million in 2015.

The procedure enables citizens and consumers to pay all their bills easily, safely and 24/7, Petra reported.
