Election day a public holiday
By JT - Sep 08,2016 - Last updated at Sep 08,2016
AMMAN — The government on Wednesday announced election day, September 20, an official holiday for ministries and public departments, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The decision came to facilitate participation in the parliamentary polls.
Prime Minister Hani Mulki had earlier issued directives to public departments not to grant leaves on the 18th and 19th of the month, the two days preceding the elections. This was due to the Independent Election Commission’s need for public employees’ support in preparing for the electoral process, according to Petra.
