Embassy team meets with Jordanians injured in Sharm Al Sheikh crash

AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Friday said that it was following up on an accident that left one Palestinian dead and five Jordanians injured in Egypt’s Sharm Al Sheikh.

A bus carrying Jordanians reportedly collided with a truck in the Egyptian town resulting in the death of a Palestinian, who held a temporary Jordanian passport, and five injuries, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Sufian Qudah was quoted in a statement as saying. 

Qudah said that the information the ministry had received showed that the bus was heading from Sharm Al Sheikh to Taba on a tourist trip, and that the accident happened 10 kilometres away from the Dahab area.

The spokesperson said that four injured Jordanians had received medical treatment and left the hospital, however, a Jordanian woman who fractured her arm was transported to the Taba hospital for further medical tests. Qudah on Saturday said that the consul at the Jordanian Embassy in Cairo, along with an embassy team, visited the five injured Jordanians to check on their condition. All of the injured Jordanians were reported to be in good health after receiving treatment.

The spokesperson said that the team contacted the Jordanian tourism company that organised the trip to secure the return of Jordanians to the Kingdom through the Nuweiba ferry and provide them with a vehicle to transport them from Aqaba to Amman.

The company will also provide another vehicle to transport the Palestinian’s relatives between Aqaba and Amman.

Also on Saturday, Qudah said that the Jordanian Embassy in Washington had not received any notice of injuries among the Jordanian community in California, which was struck on Friday by an earthquake for the second time in less than 48 hours.
