AMMAN — The Executive Programme report for the Economic Modernisation Vision (EMV) in the first half of the current year highlights progress in the agriculture and food security sector, achieved through support for farmers and the simplification of regulatory procedures.

Instructions for licensing agricultural, plant and animal activities were modified to align with regulatory laws, and pesticide, fertiliser, veterinary medicines and vaccine registration exclusivity was removed along with all legal redundancies. The report also mentions issuing instructions related to inspection and oversight of agricultural activities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.

Furthermore, the government continues to support farmers in achieving food security by expanding its agricultural lending programmes through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agricultural Credit Corporation in the first half of the year.

A total of 370 individuals were lent JD4,067,682 through the Agricultural Land Utilisation project and 175 individuals received JD1,869,311 through the Water Resources Development and Modern Agricultural Techniques project. Additionally, 130 individuals received JD671,300 through the Agricultural Sector and Food Manufacturing Incentive project and 159 individuals received JD1,692,804 through the Modern Agricultural Irrigation Systems and Clean Energy Technology Adoption programme.

Two individuals were lent JD29,000 through the Solar and Clean Energy Utilisation programme in the cold chain and agricultural industries.

According to the report, there is an expansion of support for agriculture industries based on local inputs, including the establishment of the Agricultural Industries Complex in the Southern Jordan Valley, which is scheduled to begin operations in early 2024.
