AMMAN — A radiothon held by the Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) in cooperation with Husna Radio, collected more than JD1 million, according to a JEA statement released Tuesday.

The JEA held its annual one-day fundraiser on Tuesday with the aim of collecting donations to boost Jerusalemites’ resilience by renovating old houses in Jerusalem.

The first hours of the fundraiser received “huge interaction” from all ages of the local community as well as Arabs residing in the Kingdom and expatriates, according to the statement.

JEA President Majid Tabaa said that the fundraiser is an affirmation of the Jordanian custodianship over sanctuaries in Jerusalem.

Husna Radio Director Hosam Gharaibeh said he was glad that the JEA chose his station to launch the sixth fundraiser to renovate Jerusalem homes, which he said is an indication of national unity.

The head of the JEA’s Engineers for Palestine and Jerusalem Committee, Bader Nasser, said that around 3,000 estates in Jerusalem need urgent renovation to prevent the Israeli occupation from intervening and controlling those estates under the pretext that they are derelict, noting that the JEA has been able to renovate 158 residential units through Jordanians’ support, benefiting 783 Arab Jerusalemites.

He added that two educational facilities were also renovated, benefiting 150 students.

Renovation projects implemented so far have cost around JD3.7 million, according to Nasser.
