AMMAN — Ways to build bridges between the academic and industrial sectors was the focus of a conference held on Thursday under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya.
Held by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and the Alexander von Humoldt Foundation, the event gathered educational figures and industrial experts from various sectors, in two workshops discussing practical implementations of scientific research in industries, and ways to overcome the gap between educational outcomes and labour market requirements.
The Humoldt foundation also seized on the audience’s presence to introduce the International Climate Protection Fellowships, which grants fellowships funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment and other German entities, to those working in the field of climate protection or climate-related resource conservation.
“The global challenge posed by climate change can only be met by cross-border international collaboration,” stated a report at the conference.
The programme hopes to train future decision makers and leaders during a one-year stay in Germany to share knowledge, methods and techniques with specialist colleagues, all the while taking into account the practical applicability in the fellow’s own country.
It also hopes to expand the outreach of the fellowship to include all those engaged in legal, economic, health-related and societal issues related to climate change.
