AMMAN – The Criminal Court prosecutor on Wednesday charged a father with two counts of premeditated murder charges in connection with the shooting death of his two sons in Ajloun a day earlier, official sources said.

The 68-year-old suspect reportedly opened fire at his two sons following a dispute over financial matters in Ajloun late Tuesday night, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

The suspect escaped from the house and hid in a cave in Ajloun, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

“A special investigation team tasked with following up on the double homicide traced the suspect and located his whereabouts in a cave in Ajloun,” according to the police official.

The suspect was arrested without any major incident, Sartawi added.

The special team also located a firearm that was “in the possession of the suspect and crime lab experts seized the weapon to conduct a ballistic match”, the police official added.

In his initial testimony, the suspect confessed to the shooting incident and is currently being questioned by the Criminal Court prosecutor, a senior judicial source told The Jordan Times.

“The Criminal Court prosecutor has summoned some of the suspect’s family members to learn more about the reasons that led him to kill his two sons,” the senior judicial source added.

The suspect was ordered detained by the Criminal Court prosecutor at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation.
