AMMAN — Tourism Minister Nayef Al Fayez and UNESCO’s Representative to Jordan Costanza Farina on Monday discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation.
Fayez commended the organisation’s efforts in safeguarding international heritage and highlighted the importance of having the Baptism Site and four other Jordanian sites in UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
He stressed the ministry’s readiness to cooperate with UNESCO regarding other nominations, stressing the need to draw up plans to add the Umm Al Jimal site to the list.
Jordan’s Baptism Site was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List at the beginning of this month, to become the fifth site in the Kingdom included in the list after Petra, Quseir Amra, Um Al Rassas and Wadi Rum. Farina congratulated Jordan on the recent addition.
