FM holds slew of meetings on sidelines of UN General Assembly

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday held a number of meetings with counterparts participating in the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

Safadi met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, discussing regional issues and efforts exerted to bolster joint Arab action to confront regional challenges and serve Arab interests, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

In a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, the two sides discussed enhancing cooperation, resolving regional crises, following up on the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, and preparing for their second meeting scheduled to be held in Amman.

In a separate meeting, Safadi and French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna reviewed the outcomes of the summit featuring His Majesty King Abdullah and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris last week.

Safadi and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias focused on opportunities to expand cooperation in various fields, as part of the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Cyprus, within their partnership with the EU.

Reviewing regional and international developments, the two sides agreed to continue coordination to serve the interests of the two countries.

Similarly, the Jordanin foreign minister highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation with North Macedonia Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani.

The meeting dealt with preparations for holding the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Conference for Mediterranean Partners, scheduled to be held in the Kingdom in October.

North Macedonia currently chairs the OSCE Mediterranean Partners. 

Safadi also participated in a meeting held by the World Economic Forum on security, sustainability, cooperation and peace, focusing on confronting a number of global challenges, coordinating international efforts and achieving sustainable development.

On Sunday, the foreign minister took part in the 17th annual ministerial meeting of the International Peace Institute, presided by HRH Prince Zeid Bin Ra'ad, at the joint invitation of the UAE and Luxembourg.
