Food sector ‘ready’ for Ramadan — stakeholder

AMMAN — Head of the General Association for Foodstuffs Merchants in Jordan (GAFJO) Khalil Haj Tawfiq on Saturday affirmed that the food sector is “ready” for the holy month of Ramadan amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

Haj Tawfiq, who is also the president of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, affirmed to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that the various commodities and materials that are frequently consumed during Ramadan, along with other essentials consumed throughout the year have been distributed to retail markets of all sizes, as well as civilian and military consumer corporations.

The GAFJO has contacted its affiliated malls and hypermarkets in order for them to make offers and discounts on many types of food commodities, noting that many of them will start doing so as of Sunday until the end of the holy month, he noted.

GAFJO members secure the Kingdom with more than four million tonnes of foodstuffs annually worth around $4 billion and their imports increase in the period leading up to the holy month of Ramadan, Haj Tawfiq said.
