Former army chief Abu Taleb passes away

AMMAN — Former chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Field Marshal Fathi Abu Taleb passed away on Thursday. The General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army paid tribute to Abu Taleb, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Abu Taleb was born in Wadi Al Seer in 1933 and completed his secondary education in Amman, according to Al Rai Arabic daily.
He received a bachelor’s degree in military sciences from India’s Defence Services Staff College in 1966. In 1970, he served as the Kingdom’s assistant military attaché in London, before being appointed as a military attaché in Washington between 1971 and 1974.
In August, 1981, he was appointed chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff, succeeding Prince Zeid Bin Shaker, according to Al Rai.
