GAM issue rules for municipal, local election campaigning

AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on Tuesday announced the rules for municipal and local council election campaigning, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Campaigning began on the first day of candidates’ registration, which was on Monday, provided they received permission from GAM.
The municipality called on campaigners to abide by the regulations to avoid their campaign material being removed at their own expense.
The regulations stipulated the distance between the road surface and the banner should be at least 4.5 metres and the size of the banner should not exceed 5 sqm. which are to be removed within seven days of the polling day.
Signs must also not obstruct traffic at roundabouts and intersections. Candidates must also commit to signing a guarantee to abide by the rules and deposit JD1,000, to be refunded at the end of campaigning if the candidate committed to the rules.
