GAM sanitation workers to wear turquoise uniforms

AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has replaced sanitation workers’ orange uniforms with turquoise ones, a municipality official said on Sunday. 

Basem Tarawneh, deputy director for districts and environment affairs at GAM, said the new colour was chosen following a poll conducted by the municipality’s Amman identity and communication department. 

A source at GAM, who spoke on condition of anonymity in a previous interview, said the municipality began studying this option after Jawad Kasasbeh, the brother of Muath, the air force pilot murdered by Daesh, called for changing the orange uniform as the colour is now associated with the terror group.

Videos and photos released by Daesh always show their captives, including Muath, in orange overalls.

The source told The Jordan Times that GAM has to produce 20,000 new uniforms, and the old uniforms will be gradually replaced. 

The new colour will be officially used as of March 21, according to a GAM statement. The source said sanitation workers are always associated with great dedication and loyalty towards the Kingdom, and the municipality will ensure that this bright image is not negatively affected. Around 4,600 sanitation workers are deployed in areas affiliated with the municipality, according to official figures.
