Gendarmerie Department receives vehicles, equipment from US

AMMAN — The Gendarmerie Department on Wednesday received armoured vehicles and military equipment from the US government to enhance the Kingdom’s capabilities in detecting and preventing threats of weapons of mass destruction.

During the a ceremony for the event, Gendarmerie Department Director Maj. Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh said that the department is moving with “determination and resolve” to maintain a security role that respects humans and preserves their rights, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Hawatmeh said that Jordan has faced several security challenges, including the successive refugee influxes from neighbouring countries, and dealt with terrorism that targeted manipulating ideologies.

The US defence attaché in Amman, Paulo Houston, commended the strategic partnership between Jordan and the US in enhancing peace and security and preserving the rule of law, stressing Washington’s commitment to supporting Jordan’s efforts in the war against terrorism.
