Gov’t lowers fuel prices

AMMAN — The government on Friday lowered the prices of main oil derivatives by nearly 1 per cent for August.

Under the decision taken by the government’s pricing committee, effective August 1, one litre of unleaded 90-octane gasoline is now being sold at JD0.850, down from JD0.880 in July, while one litre of 95-octane costs JD1.035 compared to JD1.040 last month.

Both diesel and kerosene prices went down to JD0.660 from JD0.675 in July.

The price of cooking gas remains unchanged at JD10 per cylinder.

Fuel prices, except those of gas cylinders, are no longer subsidised by the government, which lifted oil subsidies in November 2012.
