Gov’t open to amending electronic crimes draft law to safeguard freedoms

AMMAN — Minister of State for Legal Affairs Mubarak Abu Yamin on Monday said that the government is open to amending the articles of the electronic crimes draft law, to safeguard freedoms of the press and expression. However, he added that the withdrawal of the entire law would be considered an act of agression against the Lower House.

Abu Yamin made the remarks during a panel discussion held by the Economic and Social Council on the amended electronic crimes draft law.

Commenting on the audience’s remarks, the minister reiterated that the government has even prepared articles on the definition of hate speech or any other articles in accordance with the Lower House and all concerned. Participants at the panel discussion recommended withdrawing the law from the Lower House to further review it the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
