Gov’t takes additional measures to curb virus spread, mulls extending Defence Order No.28

AMMAN — The government has taken additional preventive measures based on the National Epidemiological Committee’s endorsed recommendations, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Faisal Shboul said on Thursday.

These measures include obliging all participants in gatherings and weddings to conduct PCR tests 48 hours prior to the event with the condition of them receiving two doses of vaccination, provided that they received their second jab within less than six months from the date of the event, the minister added.

He noted that any case suspected to have contracted the Omicron variant will be sent to institutional quarantine in a hotel in Amman until receiving the final result, Shboul said. He added that if the result is positive the case will continue institutional quarantine for 14 days.   

The minister noted that if a case is proven to have contracted the Omicron variant, they will be sent to institutional quarantine in a hotel for 14 days, during which a PCR shall be made for the infected person on the fifth day to ensure the result.

He also referred to the government decision that stipulates conducting a PCR test for all arrivals in the Kingdom through land, air and sea ports regardless of their vaccination status. 

The government is also considering the extension of Defence Order No. 28 related to accounts of debtors, which ends by the end of the year, Shboul added.
