AMMAN — Minister of Agriculture Khalid Hneifat, accompanied by the Director-General of the Jordanian-Palestinian Agricultural Products Marketing Company (JPACO), Alaa Al Din Abu Al Khair, visited the Amman-based Palmera Dates company, which is one of the largest companies for date sorting and packaging.

Hneifat affirmed that the date sector is a priority for the ministry's work and that support is being directed to overcome its challenges, especially since it captures 15 per cent of the global market share of Medjool dates, accounts for 17 per cent of agriculture in the Jordan Valley and attracts local and foreign investment.

The Palmera Dates CEO Yazan Abu Hantash said that the company employs 130 workers within the packaging and processing centre and over 140 workers in the field.

The company produces about 3,400 tonnes of dates annually, which represents a high export value, he added.
