House Speaker urges crackdown on tax evasion

AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh on Saturday said that the difficult economic circumstances Jordan is going through necessitates a "war on tax exemption", the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During a parliamentary forum held on the sidelines of Parliamentary Open Week organised by Al Hayat Centre for Civil Society Development-RASED, in cooperation with the Lower House, Tarawneh said that what happened in the Arab region has had a negative impact on the aspirations of future generations as the country is surrounded by conflicts.
The speaker said that despite the difficulties Jordan faces due to hosting refugees and the lack of aid from the international community, the Kingdom "still stands strong".
He added that the protection of the middle class and low income citizens is a priority. Tarawneh noted that the Lower House will listen to the budget speech on Sunday.
