AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan on Tuesday explained that human dignity should be at the heart of any endeavour seeking to achieve sustainable development and security.

The prince also explained that citizenship embracing various cultures is the product of accepting diversity and promoting dialogue within the same society, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During a meeting organised by the Awqaf Ministry in cooperation with the Amman Group for Future Dialogues, Prince Hassan stressed the importance of preachers in promoting moderation among believers, especially with the tremendous challenges facing the Arab and Muslim nation.

He also noted that the unsurpassed brutality of the Daesh terror group, the "khawarej" (outlaws of Islam) of this era, has promoted a distorted image of Islam and has put Muslims under suspicion.

The prince underlined that Sharia (Islamic law) can be a major guarantee to enforcing international laws, stressing Islam's focus on human dignity.

Noting that Islamic jurisprudence was ahead of international humanitarian law in its teachings on human rights, he stressed that mosques should not be viewed as merely places of worship, but also as cultural, scientific and educational Islamic institutions.

To that end, the prince called for enrolling preachers in more rehabilitation courses, according to Petra.

Also speaking at the event, Awqaf Minister Hayel Dawood said scholars are required, now more than ever, to step up and promote sound values to counter regional crises, Petra reported.
