IMF loan has not achieved its objective — MP

AMMAN — MP Ahmad Safadi, head of the Lower House Finance Committee, said that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme has not achieved its objectives of increasing revenues and reducing the deficit, thus reducing the public debt at a decent percentage of the gross domestic product.

In a press statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra on Monday, Safadi said that the Finance Committee closely observed the public monetary status and economic sector indicators since the start of the programme's implementation, and pointed out that the growth reached 2.3 per cent in sales tax revenues in 2016 and 8 per cent in 2017.

He attributed this to alternative measures taken by the Lower House without having to increase prices of basic goods, which contributed to achieving the target rates within the reforms' package in 2017.
