AMMAN — The Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) on Wednesday signed several memoranda of understanding with 16 companies from the industrial sector.

The memorandum aims at supporting local companies exporting to US, Canadian and European markets.

JEDCO Acting Executive Officer Mohammad Moheirat and local companies’ representatives signed the memoranda in the presence of Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Tareq Hammouri, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Hammouri said that Jordan was encountering large challenges such as unemployment, deficit and economic stagnation, noting that the Kingdom has an opportunity to take advantage of its World Trade Organisation membership.

He said the ministry has prepared a list of products that can be exported to the US market including food, plastic, cables, chemicals, glass and safety shoes. The companies that will be affected by the memorandum are expected to create 335 new jobs, Moheirat said.
